Anne Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of Kidney Health
Australia, said the Charity Golf day in memory of David Hookes
also highlighted the urgent need for increased organ donation,
on the eve of Organ Donor Awareness Week.
Ms Wilson said, "There is a real need to increase
Australian's registration on the Organ Donor Registry and to
address barriers to organ donation in the hospital system."
"Hundreds of Australians young and old are living on the
edge for an average of four years with their lives on hold
while they wait for a telephone call for a kidney transplant."
"Patients on dialysis and their families are under great
pressure waiting for the telephone call which could spell a
new chance at life through a kidney transplant."
Ms Wilson said, "It is vital to maintain a high level of
public awareness in relation to the need for organ donation to
assist the hundreds of people waiting for a kidney transplant
throughout Australia."
We were delighted to be joined by Robyn Hookes who
generously shared her very personal perspective on organ
donation.
