Kidney Health Australia Membership Update – June 2008
On behalf of the Board of Kidney Health Australia we would like to thank the financial members for the support which has been provided to our organization over the years. The contribution by members has enabled us to work steadily towards achieving our vision of ‘an Australia free of kidney disease’ and your partnership with us is greatly valued.
As Chief Executive Officer it is my great pleasure to inform you of the appointment of our new Chair, Ms Angela Reddy and provide you with our Annual Report 2007. Our Annual General Meeting was held on 30 April 2008 at Kidney Health Australia and the new Kidney Health Australia Constitution has been generally amended to take into account current requirements of the Corporations Act and modern governance practice.
The major change relates to the responsibility for the Governance and liability of the organisation now being the role of ten Financial Members who form our Board, and who also become our Directors. This will mean that the wider membership from a governance perspective has been discontinued. The remaining financial membership group will be re-classified as non-voting social Supporter Members.
Our Board and I would like to ensure that all our stakeholders remain engaged and involved with our kidney health network and by doing so continue to support the kidney community without the responsibility of governance. In this our 40th Anniversary year, Kidney Health Australia remains focused on our mission of meeting the challenge of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) through detection, prevention and treatment. With your ongoing engagement we will make an even bigger imprint on improving the outcomes for Australians with or at risk of developing kidney disease. Financial Membership renewals will not be issued.
Thank you, once again, for supporting our work in funding research, promoting kidney awareness and providing expert services to the kidney community. As we look forward to a new chapter and another 40 years of living and giving, may I invite you to please consider continuing your gifts to the organisation by making a tax deductible donation or an annual pledge. Your gift will enable us to further invest in services and research and fund key strategies to reduce the future burden of this most debilitating disease.
Kidney Health Australia has given a long term commitment to families and children affected by kidney disease, but the biggest challenge remains for us to reach those two million Australians who do not know they have early kidney damage.
We are honored to welcome you as a Supporter Member and I would be pleased to speak with any members who may have questions, so please feel welcome to contact me.
