Kidney Health Week - Victoria Minimize

Kidney Health Week - 22 May to 28 May 2011

It's Time For Some Decent Exposure

Kidney Health Australia is launching its annual Kidney Health Week campaign under the banner of "Red Undies Week", which is designed to be playful and a little bit cheeky and give some decent exposure to chronic kidney disease, a disease which has flown under the radar for too long. To take part in Red Undies Week, visit www.redundiesweek.org.au and support Kidney Health Australia. Order our posters via our resource centre.

Donald Puts CKD On The Map

To mark Kidney Health Week, the East Wimmera Health Service, in partnership with Kidney Health Australia, held an important inagural public health forum on May 26 entitled "Are Your Kidney At Risk Of Failing?" This sell out event was aimed at raising awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease and attracted crowds from Donald, Charlton, St Arnaud, Birchip, Horsham, Ballarat, Bendigo, Nyah and Stuart Mill.

Topics included:

  • Kidney health
  • Heart health
  • Diabetes
  • Early detection and prevention
  • Haemodialysis
  • Depression
  • Chronic illness
  • Link between heart disease, diabetes and kidney disease.

Everyone who attended received a health promotion show bag including information on how to stop smoking, how to eat healthier food, the Swap It, Dont Stop It, campaign and caring for carers. The brilliant speakers included Associate Professor John Richmond who oversaw the establishment of the dialysis and renal service which provides support for patients from Ballarat and the Northwest corridor and Joan Wood, a local grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of 2 who shared her husband's story of being diagnosed with CKD and her story as a carer.
