Victorian Kidney Kids Capers Family Fun Day/ Christmas Party
Saturday 28 November 2009, 10am–3pm
Fifteen families enjoyed a day together at Healesville Sanctuary for the annual Victorian Kidney Kids Capers Family Fun Day/Christmas Party in the stunning Yarra Valley region, 65 kilometres or one hour drive from Melbourne. These families were treated to a day fun activities and a delicious lunch in a lovely setting. The children were delighted when an unexpected guest, Mrs Claus arrived with Christmas gifts for all. Everyone was enthralled with the exclusive session with Murrandindi, an Aboriginal elder who shared stories of the local aboriginal heritage, played the Didgeridoo and provided a very special boomerang throwing demonstration where all the children had an opportunity to try their luck throwing a boomerang.

Kidney Kids and their families had a lot of fun at the Adelaide Zoo
Lindi Jane appeared in a puppet show with Billy the Kidney, kids had fun having their face painted and visited many areas in the Zoo, with the favourite being the 'petting zoo'. Santa visited with Christmas presents for the kids - our Call Centre staff generously donated funds to Santa and his team, to help fill this sack to the brim.

Henry Giblett Adult Holiday Dialysis Program 2009
This holiday program’ was founded in 1995 and allows families under financial stress to enjoy a holiday break for at least one week per year.
In 2009, Kidney Health Australia helped fifteen Western Australian families break down the barriers of dialysis with a holiday in the beautiful south-west town of Busselton, Western Australia. The Broadwater Beach Resort in Busselton has hosted the dialysis patients and their families with the KHA dialysis services taking place at the St Johns Ambulance Centre opposite the Busselton Hospital.
The Henry Giblet Holiday Dialysis program, sponsored by LotteryWest, is a highlight each year for many dialysis families who are forced to follow a rigid schedule of dialysis treatment every two to three days per week.
Kidney Health Australia funds the accommodation and arranges for patients to have their dialysis whilst on holiday. Many families are unable to take holidays because of dialysis requirements and often have not been on holiday for years. This Kidney Health Australia program provides patients and families much needed respite in a wonderful environment at Busselton. It is important to recognise that a dialysis driven timetable affects the whole family not just the patient.
We need your help to expand this program - contact Nina Graham on 08 9381 9311 or wa@kidney.org.au
