The past month has been extremely busy including Wee Week activities, preparation for the  Kidney Kar Rally and the promotion of donor awareness and transplantation issues.

I should like to take this occasion to thank the many wonderful volunteers and the people who donate and raise funds for us to be able to carry out the work we do on behalf of kidney patients and their families.

Kidney Health Australia halves home phone rental

Kidney Health Australia knows that those with Kidney Disease, on dialysis or just supporters of Kidney health are often not in a great financial position. Therefore it now offers half price home phone line rental through its telecommunications shop KHA Comms. Not only does KHA Comms offer low pricing and a tax refund, it has a limited offer for those switching over their home phone to halve the line rental for the first 12 months. Not only that but refer a friend and you AND the friend get an extra 6 months at half price! Just by switching your phone connections over to KHA Comms will save you money and help Kidney Health Australia to increase its work. For more information ring 1800 454 363 today.
Kidney Kar Rally revved up ready to go

'Get your Kidneys Checked' is the life saving message from the 2010 Kidney Kar Rally Teams  who are revved up to 'Make A Noise About The Silent Killer' - Chronic Kidney Disease.

With the slogan 'Performance-testing your kidneys will help keep your kidneys in top gear' this year the Kidney Kar Rally will commence on Friday 13 August 2010 at the Swan Hill Pioneer Village travelling through Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales, with a field of forty seven vehicles over nine days, covering some 3500 kilometres.

Overnight stays are planned in the following towns: Swan Hill, Pinnaroo, Murray Bridge, Wilpena Pound, Broken Hill, Quilpie, Charleville, Injune, Taroom, Chinchilla, Dalby, Stanhope and Glen Innes.

The annual Kidney Kar Rally provides a unique opportunity to 'Make A Noise About The Silent Killer' by urging all people in the high risk areas such as those over 50, those who are obese, smokers, people with diabetes, those with high blood pressure or from an indigenous background to have their kidneys checked.   www.checkmykidneys.com.au

Wee Week 19-25 July 2010
Cranberry basil and parmesan pasta - serves 4

Ingredients:
500g linguini
4 garlic cloves, slivered
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 teaspoons lemon zest
3 cups basil leaves, roughly shredded
30g cranberries, chopped
30g pine nuts, roasted
1/2 cup Parmesan, grated
Salt & ground black pepper

Method:
1. Fill a large pan with boiling salted water and bring it to the boil. Add the pasta to cook for about 8 minutes or until it is al dente.

2. In a small pan heat the olive oil until it is hot but not smoking. Add the garlic slivers and cook until they are crisp and golden.  Remove the garlic and olive oil from the pan and set aside.

3. When the pasta is cooked, drain the water leaving about a third of a cup of the water in the bottom of the pan. Place the pasta back in the pan and while it is still  hot, toss through the garlic, lemon zest, basil leaves, cranberries, pine nuts and a splash more olive oil through the pasta. Season with sea salt and black pepper and serve with the grated Parmesan.

We need your pre-loved clothing!
Kidney Health Australia's recycling shop in Settlement Road, Thomastown is operating well with increasing and repeat business.

The outlet has a wide range of clothing for all ages, books, bricabrac, electrical goods and furniture. The store is stocked with clothing from Kidney Health Australia bins, and we need your help with donated goods and pre-loved clothing
