Welcome to the Kidney Health Australia
February Bulletin and a busy start to 2010 with a major
Workshop on Home Dialysis, the launch of a Kidney Health
Awareness Program into schools via the internet and
preparation for World Kidney Day on 11 March 2010.
Our National Consumer Council
has been hard at work drafting a special document which
takes into account patient views and the economic
impact of Chronic Kidney Disease in the future. This will be
released on World Kidney Day as part of our Red Letter
program to alert Members of Parliament to the needs
of kidney patients and their families.

Home Haemodialysis Workshop in
Brisbane |
The Hon. Paul Lucas, Deputy Premier and Queensland
Minister for Health (right) officially opened the
third Australasian Home Haemodialysis
Workshop held in Brisbane on 11 - 12 February
2010.
Dr Carmel Hawley, Clinical Director of Haemodialysis,
Princess Alexandra Hospital and Chairman of the Conference said
the Conference was
attended by over 260 participants from the
medical, nursing, technical
and allied health care workers involved in caring for
patients on home based
dialysis.

spoke at the opening.
At the end of 2008, 10,062 people in
Australia were receiving dialysis
treatment.

Kidney Launches Health Campaign at Victorian
Primary School |
Students
of Hawthorn West Primary School recently welcomed a special new student
Billy Kidney and his friend, well known ventriloquist
Lindi Jane.

students. In their new role as Kidney
Health Australia ambassadors, Billy Kidney and Lindi Jane are
promoting the Kidney Health Australia healthy diet strategy which also includes
the importance of drinking water Nature's
Choice.

Consumer Council meeting for Kidney Health

The Kidney Health Australia National Consumer
Council met recently to fine tune its special report to
be released on World Kidney Day which will call for a
number of actions by all levels of government to improve
the position of kidney patients.

Australia Charity Golf Day

The 2010 City Mazda Kidney Health Australia
Golf Day held on Tuesday 2 February 2010
at Kingston Heath Golf Course was a huge success.
The City Mazda golf
team (left) Greg McPherson, Paul Johnson, Patrick
Tressier and Brett McMartin.
Despite the high temperatures, players
enjoyed being tested by the Australian Masters course
layout. After enjoying the BBQ lunch and golf, players
enjoyed the new facilities and were entertained by
Normie Rowe. Everyone dug deep and Kidney Health Australia was able to raise a record amount of money.
Thank you to all those that donated prizes and
participated on the day, especially our Major Partner,
City Mazda.
