Hi,

I have recently (4 weeks ago) had a kidney removed due to cancer. I also suffer from chronic rheumatoid arthritis and am very wary about starting to take all the toxic drugs that I was taking before surgery. I don't want anything to happen to my remaining good kidney. I am going to see my rheumatologist in December. but am trying to find out what I can beforehand. Does anyone else have the same problem with taking medications daily for another medical condition. I would appreciate all the advice that I can get.

Thanks - sis167

Sis167,

Thanks for your health enquiry. There are certain medications that can affect kidney function, however this would be best discussed with your own GP who knows your health history in detail. You may wish to also contact our Kidney Health Information Service at 1800-4-KIDNEY to discuss your situation further with our health team. There is a fact sheet "Living with a Single Kidney" that you can view at: http://www.kidney.org.au/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=%2b%2fFX7F7bhvI%3d&tabid=609&mid=850

Kind Regards,

Beth (KHA Health Team)

Hi, am new to this as of today. Got diagnosed with Membraneous Neprapathy in Oct last year. Was in hospital for 3 weeks with phnemonia, 20kg of fluid, high BP, cholestorol 21. Anyway they thought it was due to my thyroid, cause levels were almost zero but found out after hosp that it was this disease. So my Dr said yesterday that I have to do 6 months of steroids and something else alternative months cause leakage is up to 4.5. Im scared to take steroids as the side effects seem huge. I am 105 kg, should be bout 65 to 70kg. If I lose weight, stop smoking and cut out alcohol will this slow down the damage? Is this treatment successful in general it seems so drastic with all thise side effects, isnt their any less harmful options, it sounds as bad as having Chemo!

Thanks for listening.
