Mums on dialysis
 (N/A)

Hi anyone,

I'm a new postie and wanting to connect with other mums who are on dialysis and have to deal with the emotional and physical needs of children who have to live with this condition. I am in my forties and have two near teenage children. I have been on CPD for nearly a year. It has been a challenging time for myself and especially for my children. I have learnt many coping strategies to deal with the kids but at times it is difficult for them or maybe it is my own attitude. But at the end of the day, I feel glad that medical technology has enabled me to to survive and be a mother for my children. Does any mum have any useful hints they would like to share?

Re: Mums on dialysis
 (Australia)

 Hi Laikin,

Welcome to YAP space and thanks for sharing your experiences. Indeed coping with family life as a mother while dealing with the demands of dialysis must be quite challenging. And I can certainly appreciate your concerns for the ways in which your children are managing.

I do hope that some of our registered users come forward to offer you some insight. In the meanwhile, I wanted to make you aware of one of the networks we offer at KHA. Our Peer Support Volunteer Program can connect you directly via telephone with another person who has experienced a similar situation. If you are interested in speaking to someone through this program, just ring our freecall number at 1800-454-3639 (1800-4-KIDNEY) and we will see who we can connect you with. Another good resource (which you may have already accessed!)  is the social worker associated with your nephrologist/renal unit- social workers are often good at linking people locally who might have a few things in common...

Best Wishes!

Beth (KHA QLD Health Services Manager)
