LABELLING FOOD WITH POTASSIUM CONTENT
 (Australia)

Many of us at Kidney Health Australia and many Australian and New Zealand Renal Dietitians are concerned that we should have mandatory labelling of potassium content on all packaged foods. This is so that people needing to avoid potassium (such as people with kidney troubles on certain medications) can make an informed choice whilst shopping and reduce the risk of heart rhythm problems associated with a high blood potassium.

A window of opportunity to win this argument exists in the next two weeks but it has got to the point where direct action is necessary.

If you have had any bad experience with potassium or feel keenly that potassium labelling should be re-introduced to Australia to increase the safety for people with kidney disease and kidney failure please consider contacting your local Member of parliament or Minister of Health. Click on link for contact information: http://australia.gov.au/directories/contact-parliament

These are the only people who can help us win this argument at this stage. The matter is urgent.
