hi , I am in stage 4 renal failure , 12 months ago I was in esrf did pd for 6 months that was enough to clean my blood up which was fortunate as pd had to be stopped due to complications , have been running on my own kidney function since my gfr is 25 , just starting to get symptomatic with loss of appetite, nausea, high bp , and brain fog , I cant do dialisis again either hemo or pd so hoping my kidneys just keep chugging along on there own .so far so good ...... look forward to getting to know you all , I am 58 yo and from melbourne

Hi Georgie.... I to have renal failure. I am at stage 5 with a gfr reading sitting between 10 -- 12, its been at this level now for the past couple of years. Luckily I still haven't started dialysis yet as I am still relatively healthy and able to work. I have had renal failure since the age of 14 and I am now 50. My GFR sat at 25 from the age of 14 up until about nine years ago. So I have been very lucky. Hopefully your kidneys will hold on for you, I attribute my delay in dialysis to following my Nephrolgists instructions to the letter, diet, rest when I need it, never miss any of my medications or appointments and I have to drink 3 litres of fliud a day so that's what I do. Sorry to hear dialysis is not an option for you. Have you already tried HD? I live in NSW in the Hunter Valley. Hoping you keep well....

Hi Georgie, you wouldn't believe it but I experienced " cyber space" yesterday too suppose that's what I get for wtiting you a novel as a reply..... well maybe not quite a novel lol. Welcome aboard anyway. I wish there was some great secret I could share with you but really there isn't. I have just been very very lucky. We all respond differently to conditions and treatment. I do follow my Neph's instructions to the letter, never miss an appointment or any of my meds and there are plenty of those! I follow a renal diet...low salt, protein, potassium and phosphate, I prepare all my vegetables by peeling & cuuting into small pieces then soaking them preferrably overnight if I plan ahead enough then I boil the crap out of them. This helps to reduce the potassium, I am also careful as to how I mix my vegies together.... like I never have potato, pumpkin & cauliflower together in one meal. I havent had banana, orange or chocolate for years as I excluded them completely from diet as I know I wouldnt be able to stop at one as they are all very much my favourites. I dropped some excess weight but much to the disgust of my Neph I have gained a few kilos over the winter months as I still have a very healthy appetite...oops will be trying hard to drop them over the next couple of weeks as I have an appointment with him. I try to get as much exercise when I can along with fresh air and sunshine. As I have mentioned from the age of 14 up until just after my 41st birthday it had been pretty smooth... I had two trouble free sucessful pregnancies and was living life to the max. I was ambulanced to a major hospital with heart failure due to prolonged high blood pressure...... that is when I was introduced to my new Neph and I have been seeing him now for just over 9 years. The first couple of years were pretty rough as went into a depression. I excluded myself from everyone and everything. I exclued myself from life...I was literally living my death. I can recall sitting with my husband and to this very day I can't remember what he said but I laughed out loud...I truely laughed and with that my Husband held my face in his hands and started to cry and stated how good it made feel to hear my laugh and to see my face smiling as he was so scared he would never hear me laugh or get to see me smile again
