hi sarah, it's great to hear from a pd patient. i belong to another chat group with about 50 members, and i think only about 2 ppl do pd. i'm also suprised to hear you can't travel, and i'm also suprised to hear that you're still tired. that really sucks. why did you change from hemo? my tiredness is what annoys me the most i think. i sleep at least 10 hours a night, and still wake up feeling lethargic! i'm about a year away from starting dialysis.
hey scott, gosh are you annoyed that you can't travel overseas anymore? wow, you sound like you have a good career! and it's great that your boss is going to support you. i know lots of ppl who do home hemo. they all feel better for it apparently because they do it over 8 or 9 hours while they sleep, so they have a life, but it's also better for their body because they aren't getting rid of the bad stuff in 5 hours if that makes any sense.
Welcome Cam - I'm Teresa from KHA and work with the Health and Medical team and web editor. You are a seasoned veteran with CKD and dialysis and have a lot of first hand information to offer to others. We are a bit quiet at present, but as people become more aware of this area, the threads will grow. I admire your energy levels, even though you get tired, I couldn't go rock climbing once a week. Keep checking the page - others will chat soon. Cheers - Teresa
hi ali i stopped doing home heamo cause i had a fistular in my left arm and that clotted and they put one in my right arm and being right handed i couldn't canulate with my left hand, it was good but i was doing it at the local hospital, none of the nurses were dialysis trained and the machine was just in a little secluded room (country hospital), and i got sick of all the cleaning and maintenance, the good things were that i could pretty much do it when i wanted solong as i did my set hours per week. i never did nocternal dialysis though, i nearly went back to home heamo when i moved to brisbane just to do nocternal but then decided against it cause i was in a small unit and really didn't have the room. are u going straight to heamo or going to do pd first? i think i'd be like u, i don't want to take a back seat and i know that i could get sick at anytime so i'm always trying to make the most of life. i work 3 days a week and my employer is really supportive of me, i've had other jobs where they really couldn't give a stuff, like where i am now i've taken a week off a few times and they've never once asked me for a doctors cert.
