Welcome to YAP Space
(Australia) Modified By Kidney Kat on 27/08/2008 13:50:04)

WELCOME TO YAP SPACE!

We want to hear your thoughts  - it is YOUR cyberspacemake it work for you.  We want this area to be relevant to your needs and help you link into the kidney community, but we need your input.

YAP Space is a PILOT program focussed on all people with some connection to chronic kidney disease.  You may be in the young adults (16-25) group, in the over 25s, perhaps a kidney health professional, family and friends of someone who has reduced kidney function.

We want to make YAP Space relevant to anyone with a conneciton to kidney disease. You will be able to share your experiences, connect with information, experts and each other.  You can use it to gather interesting relevant information and obtain support from buddies online in Australia and globally.  This may alleviate some of the isolation felt when living with a chronic condition.

We welcome comments - on anything you have on your mind.  Send your email to chatroom@kidney.org.au with subject heading 'YAP Space', or just post on this Forum.

Happy Yapping - from your YAP hosts, our KHA Health Team

Re: Welcome to YAP Space
 (N/A)
hi, i'm 24 yrs old, and have known about my condition for just over 2 yrs now. and in all this time i haven't been able to find anything much that relates specifically to young ppl. as much as i have learnt from older ppl's experiences, it would really help me to be able to hear young ppl's thoughts and experiences. the older ppl that i work with for example, just can't understand how i'm young, but have no energy to go out on sat nights, or why i sleep at least 10 hours every day, but still am just knackered! so my opinion is that anything and everything relating to kidneys should be discussed, as there will be things that you will learn, and things that hadn't even crossed your mind before! and as for the expert sessions, of course there is never going to be a time that suits everybody, but this i feel very strongly should definately go ahead, as it is not only a great tool for info, but also as an emotional comfort that someone is there for you. for me, i only see my neph every 3 months, and if my health changes in the first month after seeing him, i find it very stressful knowing i have to wait 2 more months to get something done about it. once i rang him, after he instructed me to if i didn't improve, and all he wanted to do is get off the phone! so i feel this shoud be used, which i'm sure it will, and supported as much as possible. anyway, thats my thoughts for the moment, i can't wait to hear from everybody else!

hi scotty! it's great to hear from someone! how did you find out you had kidney disease? gosh it must have been a whirlwind 2 weeks for you if you've already started dialysis! i'm not up to that yet, about a year away still, so i'm still trying to learn as much as i can about it all.
